We all knew it would happen sooner or later, but it appears that Marcus Maddison’s departure from the club is a lot more imminent than the majority of Peterborough United fans would have hoped for.

Earlier today (Jan 13), Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony took to Twitter to confirm that the club had accepted a bid from Charlton Athletic for Marcus Maddison and that the player would now be free to discuss personal terms with the Sky Bet Championship club.

Here is a look at MacAnthony’s tweet:

All Posh fans know that there is a £2.5 million release clause in Marcus Maddison’s contract, so the fact that MacAnthony has stated that Posh has accepted a bid hints that it does not quite reach that figure.

That being said, Maddison’s contract at Posh is up at the end of summer, so any club willing to pay that sort of money would have been out of their minds.

The official figure of the accepted bid remains unknown.

Marcus Maddison has often torn opinion amongst Peterborough United fans, but few can argue with his ability.

He signed from Gateshead back in 2014 and the 26-year old has never looked back.

Over the last four seasons, no player in England has created as many goals as him.

Maddison has constantly been linked with a move away from the club, but Posh have managed to hold onto him, until now.

That being said, Alan Swann of the Peterborough Telegraph has written a piece today stating that although Maddison and Charlton Athletic are in talks, the deal is far from complete.

His tweet below outlines his reasons, or a link to the article can be found here.
